I received Valosäde-award for the lighting design of Cie Nuua's Vaarna performance. The award is granted annually for an accomplished lighting design.
Translation of the justification: Light acts as one of the performers of Vaarna and it is one of the objects in the performance, always constructing and manipulating the performance. No such a great lighting performance has been seen in a while. The work is a fresh breath in which the role of light is essential. Light brings additional levels like a magic trick and opens up a world we don’t see. Simultaneous, aesthetics of two elements and colors are presented simultaneously, making the work fascinating to look at. The lighting design is well aligned with the frequency of the presentation. The aesthetic choice of two-colors continues the playfulness of the performance. The installation-like, self-contained lighting design without people on the stage remains interesting. The design looks like its author, using complimentary colors and avoiding straight lines, grouping unconventionally.
